Katy resident Lisa Babin, who was a regular at Katy ISD school board meetings, has died after her son allegedly struck her with a hammer. Robert Babin remains in custody.

Authorities responded to Lisa and her son’s home on Holly Way Lane (a neighborhood off of Barker Cypress Road north of Mason Road) the evening of June 11, 2025 after Robert messaged a friend through a gaming app saying that he hit his mother. Upon arrival, deputies found Lisa Babin unresponsive in the backyard bleeding from her head. She had been struck several times with a hammer.
She was Lifeflighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the medical center, where passed away on June 20, 2025 from her injuries. While hospitalized she turned 62-years-old.
Robert Babin remains in Harris County Jail on $150,000 bond. While he was originally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, his charges could be upgraded following his mother's death.
According to authorities, Robert Babin told them he left his mother napping and went to the store. He then seemed confused when police where at their home when he returned and claimed he didn’t know what happened.
Investigators do have a confession he sent in a message to a friend on a gaming app stating that he struck his mother with the hammer during an argument.
This case is still under investigation and authorities have not shared information about the events that led up to the attack or what the argument was about.
Lisa Babin will be remembered by the community and her frequent presence at the Katy ISD School Board meetings.
