Katy Rock Band to Perform Free Concert Celebrating Debut Album

The award-winning rock band Garbage Girlfriend is performing a free concert this Friday in celebration of the release of their self-titled album.
This Friday, August 7, 2026, Garbage Girlfriend will be playing at Katy’s Central Green Park in LaCenterra from 7:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. All concerts at Central Green Park are free and open to the public. This is a great time to get to know Katy’s all-girl teenage band as they will be selling their newly released debut self-titled album.
Tomorrow night’s performance comes one week after the Katy rock band released their first full-length album and headlined a sold out show at the Bronze Peacock at House of Blues Houston. Garbage Girlfriend was also named Best Local Band in the Houston Chronicle’s Best of the Best 2026 awards.
“This whole experience has felt like a dream—it almost doesn’t seem real,” says drummer and band founder Evelyn Moreno. “It’s absolutely crazy when people we know, and even people we’ve never met, come up to us and tell us how much they love the album or sing our lyrics back to us.”
The band has a strong Katy history as the girls met and began their musical journey in city and Katy schools. Moreno, 18, recently graduated from Taylor High School in Katy ISD. She will attend the University of Texas at San Antonio this fall, where she will study Commercial and Digital Music. She will commute back to Katy to continue meeting the band’s schedule.
Bass player and background vocalist Ciona Casino, 19, is a graduate of Seven Lakes High School and is entering her sophomore year at the University of Houston, where she studies architecture.
“Balancing college with being in the band has been challenging at times, but it has been completely worth it,” Casino said. “We’ve become like sisters, and having the opportunity to release music we created together has made the experience even more meaningful.”
Ferra, 16, will begin her junior year at Mayde Creek High School in Katy ISD. Teixeira, 16, will begin her junior year at Bridgeland High School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.
The band was formed in 2022 and have been playing stages across the greater Houston area. Initially they began as a cover band playing their favorite rock songs, but then they started working on their original music and sound.
Their music has generated close to 500,000 streams since they released their first single, Lies, in September 2025.
Their debut album, Garbage Girlfriend, released on July 31, 2026, and features eight original tracks written by the band and produced by GRAMMY Award-winning producer Malcolm Springer. The album showcases their combination of alternative rock energy, memorable pop hooks and emotionally direct songwriting.
“We put so much of ourselves into making this album, and finally getting to share it with everyone has meant more than I can explain,” said lead singer Liv Teixeira. “Performing these songs live in front of our friends, families and supporters has been an experience unlike any other.”
The band plans to continue writing, recording and performing as the members return to school and begin new chapters in their education. Moreno will travel between San Antonio and Houston to maintain the band’s schedule while attending UTSA. Garbage Girlfriend has already returned to the studio and begun recording songs for their next album.
