Katy homeschool families (and even kids not in homeschool) are invited to Central Green Park’s Homeschool on the Green event that is held the last Friday of each month at 10:00 a.m. The park has offered this program for 12 years. The event is a free art class that an emphasis upon the learning taking place rather than the finished product.

"Parents love the social aspect of the program as well as the educational component. It teaches the kids to work together. It inspires a community among the children. They are being introduced to culture and history through art," says Yvonne Arceneaux Parks General Manager Willow Fork Drainage District. "They will be able to converse about great works now and throughout their professional careers. In addition to inspiring creativity, studying Art opens another aspect of communication and critical thinking."

"When I started the program 12yrs ago, parents were telling me that they had a hard time getting an Art credit for their home school kids," says Arceneaux. "Abrakadoodle teaches the program. They educate the children about a different, famous artist each class. The students then recreate one of the works of the artist they learned about."
