The ground is broken on the 56-acre Legacy Prairie Park that will bring a playground, walking trails, natural areas, 125 new trees and a retention pond to help with area flood mitigation.

The City of Katy and the surrounding communities are known to have beautiful parks and trails that local families especially love over the summer months.
The newest park, Legacy Prairie Park, will be located near Katy Hockley Road and will be close to The Green at Katy Park, 46-acre mixed-use development. Across the street from Katy Park is a 100-acre youth sports complex with baseball and soccer fields and it attracts more than 8000,000 visitors a year.
It will be complete with a floating boardwalk and educational signage for families to enjoy. This project is the result of teamwork across multiple groups.
“This project is a shared development between Parkside Capital (Katy Courts neighborhood,) Katy West MUD District, City of Katy and Heritage Park West HOA,” explains recent outgoing City of Katy Councilmember Chris Harris, who was very involved in the project along with City of Katy Councilmember Gina Hicks.

Chris Harris recently ended an 8-year term on the City of Katy City Council.
“Over the past 8-yrs over 100 acres of public greenspace has been added in the city thru the city and MUDs,” says Harris. “It’s been a worthwhile effort.”
Residents continue to want more outdoor spaces and building parks like this meets that need as well as provide a useful space that will also help prevent area flooding.
When completed, Legacy Prairie Park will join a growing list of Katy area parks that families can get out and enjoy right now.
Summer is now in full swing. Here are some local parks and trails that Katy families can go enjoy.
