A Katy stepfather and his two teenage stepdaughters were found dead at their Northeast Katy home around 3:50 am Sunday morning by Harris County Sheriff Officers.
Police received a call around 3:38 am from the mother, Reyna Isabel Perez, because she could not locate her family in their home at 3859 Silver Hawk Drive (near the intersection of Greenhouse and Clay Road) after arriving home around 3:30 am. Perez says she looked around the first floor of the home and when she couldn't locate her family, she called police.
Maria Perez, 14, Isabella Perez, 16, and their stepfather, Victor Portillo, 40, were located in an upstairs bedroom of the home with trauma to their bodies, which appeared to be gunshot wounds, Harris County Sheriff's Officer Ed Gonzalez said. Investigators believe the home is the crime scene where all three died. A gun was recovered in the home.
The investigation is ongoing but Gonzalez stated, "At this point we don't have anything to indicate that there's an immediate threat or ongoing threat to the community". If new details emerge to change this, HCSO's will update the public.
The home is in the Katy ISD school zone for Cardiff Junior High and Mayde Creek High School but confirmation has not been released as to what schools Maria and Isabella attended. Katy ISD police were spotted at the scene.
As Katy Magazine learns more details, we will provide updates.
