A driver was arrested over the weekend after Constable Terry Allbritton’s Katy deputies witnessed two drivers street racing on South Mason Road.

Street racing is illegal and a driver is in jail after he raced another vehicle on South Mason Road near Kingsland Blvd. last Saturday, June 14, 2025. According to Harris County Constable's Office Precinct 5, street racing continues to be a problem in our area.

Constable Terry Allbritton’s Katy deputies witnessed. Two trucks racing in the 500 block of S. Mason Road when the pulled over the losing vehicle. This happened on Saturday around 11:30 p.m. The driver was arrested for Racing on Highway.

“Street racers can lose control because of how fast they are going,” says Sgt. Brandon Webster. “I’ve seen innocent people get hurt and safety is the priority when going to pull racers over.”

According to Sgt. Webster, he was behind one of the trucks at a red light and when the light turned green, the two pickup trucks raced.

In this case, the driver pulled over without protest and admitted to his reckless behavior. Sgt. Webster could only pull one of the drivers over and this suspect had recklessly crossed all the lanes of Mason Road without a signal.

The driver was a 27-year-old male who had his three siblings (ages 20, 18, and 16) in the vehicle with him.

In Texas, street racing is a Class B misdemeanor with a punishment of up to $2,000 and/or 180 days in jail.

Katy residents often report hearing racing occurring on roads with longer stretches such as 99 or FM 529. Local authorities caution families to watch out for such dangerous activities that occur late at night.

“If residents witness street racing, they should immediately call our dispatch number, 281-463-6666, with a detailed description of the vehicles and location,” says Sgt. Webster. “Don’t send us a social media post or message that we may not see for an hour.”

The same applies to those who hear racing, but without a description and exact location catching racers will be hard.
