A Katy man was killed in a dog attack while walking along the hike-and-bike trail off Porter Road.

A witness to the attack notified 911 around 9:00 a.m. yesterday morning. The caller said that three dogs were attacking the 62-year-old man. The attack occurred at popular hiking trail at the 2500 block of Porter Road. According to authorities, all three dogs were pit bulls.
When deputies with Harris County Precinct 5 arrived at the scene shortly after the call, the victim was found deceased.
After the initial attack on the man, the dogs ran into a nearby neighborhood where they attacked a mother and her 3-year-old child. Both were hospitalized for their injures but expected to recover. That attack happened at the 23600 block of Permission Creek Lane.
After four hours of searching all three dogs were captured. The last was found in a drainage pipe, where it was tranquilized and removed with the help of Precinct 5's Strategic Response Unit and Harris County Animal Control, which took possession of all three dogs. One dog was euthanized. The other two dogs will be quarantined for 10 days and then their future will be determined by a judge.
Harris County Constable Terry Allbritton asks that you keep the victim’s family and loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time.
At a press conference following the incident, Sgt. Jason Brown with the HCSO Homicide Division said that such attacks are unusual, but not unheard of in this area. He stated that while it’s uncommon, his squad investigates such cases every few years.
Though the victim has yet to be identified, authorities report that his family says he often walked the trail in the morning.
Precinct 5 offers these tips if you are approached by an aggressive dog:
⦁ Stop running. Don’t trigger a chase
⦁ Stay calm, stand tall, don’t scream
⦁ Avoid eye contact; use a firm voice: “No. Stay.”
⦁ Put an object (water bottle/jacket) between you and the dog
⦁ Back away slowly — never turn your back
⦁ If threatened, protect face and neck
⦁ Report aggressive dogs and seek care for any bite
The dogs have been identified to belong to a family in the area. This case is still under investigation, and it has yet to be released how the dogs got loose. Authorities are interviewing that owners for more information.
