A man is believed to have fired multiple gunshots into the air near Katy ISD’s Memorial Parkway Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon. The incident prompted the District to alter dismissal plans to ensure everyone’s safety.

A man allegedly fired gunshots into the air near Memorial Parkway Elementary School on Park Tree Lane. The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
According to a representative with Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 5, the wanted individual is a man known the local law enforcement. Multiple witnesses saw him run from a home he shares with his parents before firing off his gun into the air. He then was seen running back inside the home. He later fled the scene.
While Katy ISD Police initially took the case, investigators with Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 5 are leading the investigation, seeking charges, and finalizing an arrest warrant for the man said to have a history with mental illness.
Due to the proximity of the incident, the District placed the school in “secure mode” as a precaution. Katy ISD officials say secure mode was officially lifted by 4:25 p.m. after local authorities deemed the area secure.
To further ensure the safety of students and families, dismissal plans yesterday afternoon were altered and students had to be picked up in person through showing proper identification. Walkers and bike riders were not released.
Katy ISD released the following statement after the incident:
Memorial Parkway Elementary continues to be on Secure due to law enforcement in the area, unrelated to the campus. Out of an abundance of caution, Katy ISD Police have determined to alter dismissal procedures.
Parents/guardians are required to pick up their student(s) in-person through the reunification process in the car rider line at the front of the building. Parents/guardians must bring a valid government-issued photo ID.
Students will not be permitted to bike, walk or ride the bus today. Students who are not able to be picked up during dismissal times, will be held and supervised in the school until a parent/guardian can pick them up.
All after-school activities have been cancelled including tutoring.
We ask parents/guardians to please be patient as we initiate this process of reuniting students with their families.
According to a representative with the Precinct 5, under the direction of Constable Terry Allbritton, they do not believe that there is a current threat to the school or the community. This seems to have been a domestic dispute that occurred near the school.
