Mayde Creek High School senior Kosi Okpala celebrated a moment that will stand among the most significant in District history. The Rams standout was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Houston.

“It’s a great feeling to reach an accomplishment like this,” says Okpala. “I want to thank my family, my coaches and my school staff. Most of all, I thank God for helping me get here.”

The 19-6A Defensive MVP wreaked havoc on opposing offensive lines all year, and Okpala, a four-star recruit and the 247 Sports ranked No. 9 pass rusher in the nation, signed with the University of Texas to play in the SEC.

Mayde Creek Head Football Coach Mike Arogbonlo said the honor reflects Okpala’s work ethic and leadership on and off the field. The senior, who also excelled in the classroom, graduates in December and will attend the University of Texas starting in January.

“This is a huge deal, not just for our program but for the entire District,” says Arogbonlo. “We’re incredibly proud of Kosi and wanted to celebrate this moment together as a team.”

Okpala’s recognition marks a milestone for Mayde Creek football and highlights the continued growth and competitiveness of Katy ISD Athletics across the District.
