There is a new bookstore in Katy that is offering book lovers a comfortable place to share their love of reading over a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Mockingbird Books opened to a buzz of popularity that deplenished their shelves; they are now re-stocked and ready to become your book hangout.

Independent bookstore, Mockingbird Books is now open in Cinco Ranch at 24210 Westheimer Parkway. Owners Stephanie Pitcock and Julie Foster are longtime friends and Katy residents and wanted to create a space where the community can come together over book discussions.

For book lovers, it is comforting being surrounded by books and others who love them,” says Stephanie Pitcock. “We offer comfortable seating that invites you to sit and stay awhile.”

The bookstore is the result of 2 years of planning (they have been friends for 10 years) after Stephanie jokingly commented about wanting to open a bookstore to a mutual friend who told her that Julie also wanted a bookstore. They met over dinner to discuss their shared dream, and plans began. Now Mockingbird Books is ready to serve the Katy community.

“We are both avid readers, members of local book clubs, and love to talk about books,” says Pitcock. They give credit to their generous mentor, Arlene Kasselman, owner of Seven and One Books in Abilene for her support and help.

Katy readers can also enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine while finding their next story to get immersed in.

Mockingbird Books will offer new books of all genres from adults, young adults, and children. They will offer books from local Indie authors and illustrators in addition to a small selection of used books at a discounted price.

“We offer hand-poured/custom-scented candles from Abilene Candle Company made exclusively for Mockingbird Books,” says Pitcock.

They also sale greeting cards, note cards, puzzles, pen sets, journals, the ever-popular vinyl stickers, themed cocktail napkins, stuffed animals, and children's toys are available for purchase as well.

“Julie and I live in Katy, our children are/were educated in Katy ISD, our friends are in Katy, and we hope, once more established, to give back to the community that has supported us from the start,” says Pitcock.
