Seven Lakes Junior High Chamber Orchestra won first place in the annual Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Orchestra Competition, which is widely considered a benchmark of public-school music education in the United States.

"Performing at the TMEA Clinic & Convention is a dream realized for many young musicians," says Katy ISD Executive Director of Fine Arts Damon Archer. "These students have demonstrated exceptional artistry, commitment and teamwork throughout the competition process.”

The rigorous selection process demands multiple stages, such as blind judging, meticulous screening and state qualification. The Seven Lakes Junior High Spartan Symphony Orchestra also achieved elite status as a finalist in the Full Orchestra Competition.

The winner of the Honor Orchestra Competition performs at the highly coveted TMEA Clinic & Convention held each February in San Antonio. The convention is the largest music education convention in the world, routinely drawing in more than 30,000 attendees.

“Their success is a testament to the strength of Katy ISD's fine arts programs and the outstanding educators who inspire them every day," says Archer.

The Seven Lakes Junior High School Chamber Orchestra will perform at the 2027 TMEA Clinic and Convention in San Antonio, one of the world’s premier music education conferences.
