Katy shows its strength through community support yet again as individuals, businesses, and local markets come together to support the recently displaced local vendors impacted by the Painted Tree closure.

Painted Tree, a retail location in Cinco Ranch that housed local vendors under one roof, suddenly closed without warning on April 13, 2026. The closure left many Katy vendors left with merchandise and scrambling for locations to continue to sale to their customers.
“I am totally heartbroken for all the vendors affected,” says Cassandra McGrath, who owns Helpful Home Staging and Design, a booth impacted by the closure. “It’s devastating.”
But there is hope for these vendors as the Katy community continues to show support to local artisans and small businesses.
The Katy Hustle
The Katy Hustle is a new Facebook group designed by community members Jax Johnson and Jeweliana Kier, vendor coordinator at Cottage Charm Katy. The purpose of the group is to give the vendors from Painted Tree an outlet to connect with their customers and for them to announce where they will be selling.
“I had the idea because I’m a small business owner that is scared everyday of having to shut my doors,” explains Johnson. “I know that fear. And the worst has happened to these people who thought they had the answer to being able to sell their items.”
Johnson and Keir felt called to help like many others have.
“That is their livelihoods,” says Johnson. “I reached out to a group of women on Facebook to see if anyone would like to join me in helping. I had quite a few, including Jeweliana. She’s also a small business owner.”
Others have stepped up to help as well, showing the power of small business owners in this community.
The Dryer to Host Two Special Market Days
The Dryer, located at 5321 1st Street in Downtown Katy will host two special market days specifically for the vendors who have been impacted by the Painted Tree closure.
Katy residents can shop these vendors on two upcoming Sundays (April 26 and May 3, 2026 from 1-5 p.m.)
“Hopefully this will at least help them sell their leftover items,” says The Dryer owner and developer Hadi Nurcahya.
So far, 30 vendor spots have been booked for these market events. These market days will be separate from The Dryer’s regular Farmer’s Market days that happen every Saturday from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.
Turquoise Acres Ranch
Turquoise Acres Ranch has also invited vendors to reach out to them and join their Market Days on Saturdays and Sundays. The ranch full of family fun is located at 3550 Schlipf Road in Katy.
Painted Tree left hundreds of vendors scrambling when all their locations closed this month. The Katy community demonstrates through this show of support the importance of shopping local artisans.
“I just wanted to make sure someone stepped up to be the centerpiece to aligning these people with ways to make a living,” says Johnson. “Whether it be through multiple events or if other boutiques should post any openings for vendors to come into.”
Katy is full of local and small businesses full of great finds. What are some of your favorite vendors?
