U.S. Post Office Offers $100K Reward for Katy Area Mail Thieves

The U.S. Post Office is offering a $100 reward for information that leads to the arrest of three men suspected of multiple mail thefts in Fort Bend County and Harris County. They stole mail from a Cinco Ranch apartment complex twice this month.



 

Katy area residents to are asked to contact the U.S. Post Office with information regarding the men captured on video. They are suspected of multiple mail thefts in Fort Bend County and Harris County including a Cinco Ranch apartment complex.



 

The Post Office is offering a $100K reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455 and reference case No. 4384236. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.  

 

While they are suspected of multiple mail thefts, the suspects were caught on security camera at the Montage at Cinco Ranch apartments on Cinco Terrace breaking in and stealing mail on October 17, 2024 and a second time was on October 21, 2024.

 

According to an investigator, the suspects used a counterfeit master key to gain access to the mail. This continues to be a growing problem in the area.




The theft of or tampering with mail is considered a federal crime and those found guilty can receive up to 180 days in jail to 10 years in prison. Judges can also issue a fine from $4,000 to $10,000 and more if mail was stolen from the elderly or disabled.

 

Protect Your Mail

Mail theft does happen, but there are some steps Katy residents can take to protect their mail.

  • Find out when mail gets delivered and pick it up within the hour.

  • Have a neighbor pick up your mail if you’re unavailable.

  • Request a mail hold when going on vacation or ask a neighbor to collect it.

  • Arrange for a private box at the local post office.
