Still trying to get into that New Year fitness routine? Check out these fun and crazy Katy workouts!

Tired of your usual workout routine? Maybe it's time to step up to the barre, or stretch out with some goats. Improving your health and reaching your fitness goals should be exciting and rewarding. So, grab some silks, put on your heels and boxing gloves and find a new crazy-fun-favorite way to get into shape.




 

1. Laughter Yoga


Katy’s Central Green Park in LaCenterra offers many free classes throughout the week, including Laughing Yoga. This is not your typical yoga, but rather involves prolonged laughter and imagination to achieve physiological and psychological benefits, including weigh loss.

2. Aerial Fitness


Don't get hung up on your old fitness routine. Find a new one, like aerial yoga or an aerial fitness class. These exciting yoga classes use silks or fabrics hung from reinforced ceiling mounts. The program is designed to extend traditional yoga, Pilates, and barre exercises to increase flexibility, strength and relaxation.

3. Goat Yoga

Did someone say, "Downward Goat"? Goat yoga combines traditional yoga with, yes, goats. This workout is a fun way to introduce basic yoga positions to beginners. Goat yoga helps participants relax and reduce stress, while interacting with some cute, furry friends!

4. TRAMPOLINE YOGA

Do you want to blast up to 1000 calories in an hour? Get jumping! Trampoline workouts can help you lower your blood pressure and improve circulation. Plus, you can try something new and fun while you strengthen and tone your muscles. Trampoline workouts are ideal for anyone with joint problems too.

5. Indoor Rock Climbing


Rock climbing builds strength and endurance as well as reduces stress. This workout can even boost brain function because every move involves problem solving. Indoor rock climbing can accommodate any fitness level, too, because you can determine your degree of difficulty before attempting a course.

6. HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING (HIIT)

HIIT workouts focus on short, intense bouts of calorie-blasting moves, with short breaks in between (typically only 30 seconds). This regimen includes a variety of different workouts to confuse the muscles and force them to become stronger. With the intensity level pumped all the way up to a 10, classes or workout sessions usually last no longer than 30 - 45 minutes. HIIT proves ideal for anyone with limited time who loves a good, challenging sweat session.

7. MARTIAL ARTS & KICKBOXING

Martial Arts and kickboxing provide a total-body workout. They burn calories and tone your body. Sign up for classes if you want to lose weight, release stress and improve your reflexes. Most classes include a brief warm up with basic fitness/agility drills or light weights, followed by alternating drills on heavy bags and mitts held by an instructor or partner.

8. POLE WORKOUTS

Pole workouts can be sweat-inducing, super-effective workouts. The fitness routines enhance flexibility, tone your body, and build strength. Plus, you’ll learn how to flaunt your curves and celebrate your body.

9. MEGAFORMER

Megaformer addresses all five of the elements of physical fitness: cardio, strength, endurance, body composition, and flexibility. With moves called “catfish,” “spider lunge,” and “mega preacher curl,” you’ll burn between 300 - 600 calories during class - and slow burn for up to 38 minutes after.

10. STILETTO WORKOUTS

Looking for a challenge while you exercise? Then try a Stiletto workout. The class typically consists of Pilates and barre and exercisers have to balance in stilettos and find their center. The stilettos are usually reserved for just the toning exercises. Participants are advised to go barefoot or wear sports sneakers for the cardio portion of the class.

Dance like there's nobody watching! Try an international dance class to get your heart rate up and absorb some culture too. The quick beats of flamenco and salsa will have you burning calories before you know it! For the truly adventurous, tie on your hip scarf and start belly dancing to improve flexibility and core strength. After a couple of sessions, you might notice you've lost that stubborn belly fat and started toning!
