Two suspects were shot by deputies around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday night after an attempted robbery of Walgreens on Westheimer Parkway and S. Mason Road. Two additional suspects involved in the robbery are in custody at the Fort Bend County Jail.

Gang Task Force Followed Suspects

The suspects walked into Walgreens Tuesday night and robbed the store while authorities waited outside. Once suspects exited the Walgreens, authorities identified them, and a chase ensued down Mason Road.

The shoot out happened in front of Aston at Cinco Ranch Apartments, after deputies tried to confront the four men outside Walgreens. DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodward, says a joint gang task force was tracking the suspects prior to the attempted robbery at Walgreens, where authorities then attempted to make contact with the suspects and they fled the scene to the Cinco Ranch Apartments. "My son and I initially thought fireworks and quickly realized they were GUNSHOTS," says a nearby resident in a social media post.

Two Suspects in Custody

One suspect died at the scene and the other later at the hospital, deputies told the media in a press conference at the scene. Several weapons were retrieved from the scene of the incident, and investigations will continue. No officers or bystanders were injured in the shoot out, except one trooper may have suffered minor injuries due to broken glass. The names of the four suspects have not been released, but the two men in custody are twenty-one years of age.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at the scene, "this is a violent crew that has been on a crime spree for the last two weeks or so...it was our belief that they were just going to continue to do this."

Responsible for Other Robberies According to authorities, The Texas DPS had been investigating the four suspects for at least two weeks, and believe the suspects have taken part in about a dozen robberies in Harris and Fort Bend counties. The Texas Rangers, The Harris Counties Sheriffs' office, partnered with Fort Bend County's Sheriffs office are continuing to investigate.
