End of Watch Procession comes to Katy as Officers Honor Fallen Deputy

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office will lead a procession for Deputy Kenneth Lewis today at 8:00 a.m. that will impact drivers along the Grand Parkway. Deputy Lewis lost his life when he was struck by a vehicle while assisting a stranded motorist. The community honors him as the hero he was.

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has announced the End of Watch for Deputy Kenneth Lewis. They will lead a procession this morning that will start at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences (1861 Old Spanish Trail) in Houston and end at Schmidt Funeral Home (1344 West Grand Parkway South) in Katy.
Staging at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will begin at 7:00 a.m. this morning, where law enforcement agencies and first responders wishing to assist with the escort are invited are invited to participate.
A Wall of Honor will be conducted prior to the escort that will begin at 8:00 a.m. this morning, February 27, 2026.
The procession will utilize portions of the Westpark Toll Road Westbound and State Highway 99 Northbound. The department requests motorists to be patient and expect possible delays along the route.
Lost His Life While Assisting Another
Last Saturday at around 3:40 a.m., FBCSO Deputy Kenneth Lewis was struck by a vehicle while he was out assisting a stranded motorist on I-10 near Elderidge Road.
Preliminary information indicates Deputy Lewis was in his personal vehicle when he pulled over to help the motorist and was struck by a passing vehicle that fled the scene. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was listed as in critical condition.
Deputy Kenneth Lewis passed away on February 23, 2026.

Deputy Lewis is survived by three children, two of which are twins that will graduate high school in a few months.
Fatal Hit and Run Under Investigation
The incident remains under investigation by the Houston Police Department. Investigators are reviewing toll road data a video from that area in the search for the dark-colored Honda sedan that was involved in the fatal hit and run.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced publicly, but Katy mourns the loss of Deputy Lewis who cared for this community.
