Katy children can take the first step to their education journey by enrolling in Katy ISD. The Katy school district is now accepting enrollment for next academic year’s kindergarten class.

Enrollment is now open for Katy ISD Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 academic year. These students will be the graduating class of 2039!
“My child has gained a strong foundation in kindergarten thanks to the excellent teachers and supportive environment,” says Griffin Elementary parent Mamatha Prasanna. “This first year helped build confidence, independence and a genuine love for learning.”
Kindergarten in Katy ISD builds strong academic foundations while nurturing creativity, independence and social growth. Students engage in hands-on, collaborative learning that supports early literacy and numeracy, social-emotional development and age-appropriate use of instructional technology. Daily instruction also includes creative activities and fun, engaging specials such as art, music and physical education.
“As both a mom and a former educator, I’ve been incredibly impressed with our kindergarten experience,” says Pattison Elementary parent Chancie Davis. “Mrs. C has done such a wonderful job striking a balance between strong academics and hands-on learning, centers, and play — my kiddo even plays math games using manipulatives with friends each day, building skills and friendships at the same time.”
Parents also highlight the balance between academics and emotional growth.
“From the very first day, my child felt welcomed, safe and excited to learn,” says Jenks Elementary parent Mandi Andrews. “The teachers are caring, patient and incredibly dedicated. We’ve seen tremendous growth in confidence, curiosity and love of learning.”
Families must meet the following requirements to enroll:
Students must be 5-years-old on, or before, Sept. 1
Registration opens Feb. 2 and closes June 26
Enrollment is completed online through the District enrollment portal
Required documents include proof of residency, immunization records and a birth certificate.
For additional enrollment details and registration requirements, visit the Katy ISD registration page.
To help families prepare, Katy ISD campuses will host Kindergarten Open Houses/Round-Up events beginning in mid-March and continuing through April. All 48 elementary schools are participating so students can see their campuses. These events allow families to meet staff, explore campuses and learn what to expect in the year ahead.
“Kindergarten should feel welcoming, engaging and joyful,” says Katy ISD Elementary ELAR and Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator Celeste Ferranti. “Our Kindergarten Round-Up events help families and students feel confident about the transition by offering a preview of the school environment and sparking excitement for learning.”

“It’s clear Katy ISD understands how young children learn best,” says Davis. “Most importantly, my child is thriving and genuinely loves going to school and her teacher!”
