The Katy Depot turns 125 this weekend and the non-profit that preserved its history will host a community party perfect for family fun. Celebrate and join the fun this Saturday on the city proclaimed, “Katy Heritage Society Day!”

The Katy Heritage Society invites the community to celebrate the Katy Depot’s 125th birthday this Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Katy Railroad Park (5615 First Street.)
The Katy Heritage Society was formed in 1978 to save the depot from being demolished and the group still maintains it today in addition to preserving and honoring other historical places in Katy.
At the January 9, 2023 Katy City Council meeting, a proclamation was issued to recognize January 14, 2023 as the 125th Birthday of the Missouri Kansas and Texas Depot (known as the “MKT Depot”) and proclaiming January 14, 2023 as “Katy Heritage Society Day” in the City of Katy.

Katy Mayor William Thiele gladly accepted the proclamation.
“The Katy Heritage Society has been the Steward of the Depot since 1979 and has spent innumerable hours promoting and maintaining the museum located within the Depot,” says Mayor Thiele. “The City of Katy is grateful to the Katy Heritage Society, their members, and volunteers for their dedication in preserving the history of the City of Katy for all citizens.”
Katy families can celebrate the Depot at Saturday’s party. There will be MKT engineer hats for kids, a commemorative cookie, tours of the Depot, G-Scale model train set up and more.
The Katy Heritage Society will also reveal a new section of the park.
