Demonstrating Public Trust

“Katy Christian Ministries’ exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” according to Michael Thatcher, President & CEO of Charity Navigator.

Charity Navigator use metrics focusing on governance and ethical practices, and only award the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. These Accountability and Transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders.

"This is another milestone in the life of Katy Christian Ministries," says Deysi Crespo, KCM Executive Director. "Being open and transparent to undertake rigorous evaluations that validate the financial controls set in place, and the overall financial health of the organization to our stakeholders, is what my team and I keep at the forefront of our philosophy and character."

"Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our 4-star rating." says Thatcher. "This adds KCM to a preeminent group of charities working to overcome our world’s most pressing challenges."

“It’s important our donors trust that we’re using their donations wisely to accomplish our mission to transform lives with their generosity and God’s grace,” says Crespo.

8,648 Unduplicated Households Helped Last Year

KCM places emphasis on the measurable impact of the services and resources it provides to the community. In their recently published 2018 Impact Report, KCM assisted 8,648 unduplicated local households in 2018 alone.

For more than three decades, KCM has been working to fight poverty, food insecurity, and domestic and sexual abuse. 41,279 case management sessions were provided to people seeking assistance with basic needs, food assistance, and access to other resources. 718,388 meals were distributed for a total of 862,066 pounds of food given from the KCM Food Pantry. The KCM Crisis Center served a total of 2,644 primary and secondary victims of domestic and sexual violence.

“Our 4-star Charity Navigator rating demonstrates to our supporters our good governance and financial accountability,” said Kent Black, KCM Board President.

Second Resale Store Opening Next Month

KCM's second resale store will be located at 23232 Kingsland Boulevard. The store will have a soft opening in late April and is set for a grand opening on May 1. It will operate the same hours as its First Street, store Monday - Saturday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

"The added proceeds from the second resale shop will help us grow and continue to provide services to move families from crisis to stability," says Crespo. "We've already added hours to our food pantry and this will help us support that growth, and continue to expand as we're needed."

35 Years of Service and Growing

KCM has been serving the people of Katy and surrounding communities since the 1980's providing social services, a crisis center, and food pantry.

"Receiving this 4/4 star rating at the same time when we are currently under construction of our second resale store is like icing on our birthday cake for our 35th year," says Crespo.
