Katy Community Rallies to Support Venezuela

The Katy community is working to support the victims of last week’s devastating double earthquake that occurred in northern Venezuela leaving at least 1,450 people dead and tens of thousands missing. Here’s how you can help.
Last Wednesday, June 24, 2026, back-to-back earthquakes registering at a 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck the Caribbean plate boundary that impacted northern Venezuela. The situation created a rare seismic phenomenon when the two quakes set only 39 seconds apart delivered catastrophic tremors that weakened and then took down buildings.
The greater Houston area, Katy included is full of many cultures and nationalities including many from Venezuela. Several local groups are working to collect donations to send to aid in the relief, a project that is expected to continue for a while as the devastation is vast.
Metabox Cargo is a Venezuelan-owned shipping company with locations in Katy. They are offering their services as a hub and accepting any and all donations (no liquids) at the Katy locations (19308 Morton Road and 25600 Westheimer Parkway Rd in Cinco Ranch.
“We need first aid options,” says an organizer. Non-perishable foods are also needed.
Bar and Grill (25810 Westheimer Parkway open at 11:30 a.m.) and Lieskawinstyle (2727 N. Mason Rd. open at 9:00 a.m.) are also accepting the following:
Water and Non-Perishable Food
Medicines and Medical Supplies
Clothes, blankets and shoes
Personal Hygiene items
Flashlights, Batteries, and Radio
