The Katy Heritage Society’s gazebo that is frequently used by photographers was vandalized over the weekend. While a company has stepped up to help, donations are still needed to maintain and renovate historic properties.

The Katy Heritage Society’s gazebo was found vandalized on Friday morning, February 20, 2026. A large section of the railing is knocked down along with other damages.
“Many people don’t realize how much it costs to maintain historical homes and community structures,” says Katy Heritage Society President Adrienne Davitz. “While the gazebo itself is not one of our original historic buildings, it is in great condition and has been a beautiful part of the experience for our visitors.”

Since 1979, the society has worked to protect and preserve the historic resources of the Katy area. They are the city’s oldest nonprofit.
Damage like this takes money and focus away what the organization loves the most: providing educational programs, offering free tours to the public, and hosting very affordable private tours for our community. Another long-awaited renovation is that of the Mess Hall, and problems like this interfere.
Venus Construction has stepped up to take over the repairs at no cost, still donations are always appreciated.
“The reality is simple: keeping the lights on costs hundreds of dollars every single month. Maintenance, insurance, utilities, repairs — it all adds up quickly,” explains Davitz.
Annual memberships are $25 and is instrumental is sustaining what the organization does.
“Those memberships, those donations, and those who quietly stand by us through every high and low are the reason we have been able to serve Katy since 1979. We have overcome so much in our 45+ years,” says Davitz.
While it cannot be guaranteed that this was an act of vandalism, Davitz explained that it would have taken a big force to knock over that railing.

“Thank you to everyone who continues to support, encourage, and believe in this organization.,” says Davitz. “Katy’s history is worth protecting — and together, we will continue to do just that.
