Three new Board of Trustees were elected to the Katy ISD School Board in a low voting election.

Low voter turnout still delivered decisive votes for three positions on the Katy ISD School Board. Cicely Taylor, Jim Davidson, and Nathan Shipley all won their elections.
Current members Morgan Calhoun (Position 4,) Mary Ellen Cuzela (Position 5,) and Amy Thieme (Position 3) didn’t run for reelection. However, no seat was uncontested, but each position held a clear winner.
Unofficial voting count:
Position 3:
Cicely Taylor- 3,956 votes (74.95%)
Haider Razvi- 665 votes (12.6%)
Sean Hesterly- 657 votes (12.45%)
“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and trust the Katy ISD community has placed in me,” says Cicely Taylor. “This victory is not only historic as the first African-American woman elected to the Katy ISD Board of Trustees in its more than 100-year history, but it is also a reminder that every voice matters.”
Taylor has 25+ years of combined experience in education (teaching and administrative) and is also a proud parent of Katy ISD graduates.
“I am honored, humbled, and ready to get to work alongside my fellow board members, school staff, administration, and our community to help strengthen Katy ISD and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed,” says Taylor.
Position 4:
Jim Davidson- 3,261 votes (62.53%)
David Greene- 433 votes (8.3%)
Tiffany Auzenne Asonye- 1,521 votes (29.17%)
“Katy ISD has rightfully earned a reputation for excellence over many decades,” says Jim Davidson. “This reputation was built thanks to the collective efforts of so many who have poured their hearts into making sure the children in Katy have every opportunity to receive a world class public education.”
Jim and his wife, are both Katy ISD graduates and have children in junior high and high school. He feels that his professional experience prepares him to address current challenges such as enrollment decline, teacher retention, and others.
“I am humbled and honored to assume the responsibility of Trustee and look forward to doing everything I can to ensure this generation of students and those to come will always be proud to say they were a product of our beloved ‘Katy Schools!’”
Position 5:
Nathan Shipley- 3,745 votes (70.46%)
Caleb Aiden Smith-Silverio- 580 votes (10.91%)
Jesus Nieto- 990 votes (18.63%)
“Thank you for placing your trust in me to represent your voice on the Katy ISD Board of Trustees,” says Nathan Shipley. “From day one, I said I was running to support our public school system and to keep our kids, staff, and parents at the center of every conversation and decision made. I will do exactly that.”
Both Nathan and his wife, Danielle are Katy ISD graduates and have three children that range from a District elementary school to high school.
Nathan’s professional experiences (including Vice President of Fort Bend MUD 151) and his personal passion for this community prepare him to take on this role of leadership.
“There are so many people who helped make this campaign possible. Until you’re in it, you don’t realize how many people are involved and how much work happens behind the scenes for months leading up to Election Day,” add Shipley. “Even today, there are people across Katy picking up yard and road signs on our behalf. To everyone who played a part—you know who you are—thank you.”
The new Board of Trustees will be sworn in on May 11, 2026. They will join current members: Lance Redmon (President, Position 2,) Rebecca Fox (Vice President, Position 6,) Dawn Champagne (Secretary, Position 7,) and James Cross (Position 1.)
