Katy ISD will be ready with personal protective equipment (PPE) for its staff and students when in-person instruction resumes on Tuesday, September 8.
Katy ISD is currently distributing hundreds of thousands of personal protective equipment (PPE) to each of its elementary and secondary campuses. Items include masks, gloves, thermometers, and more.
When campuses reopen for in-person instruction, all Katy ISD staff will be required to wear a mask/facial covering. Students in fourth through 12 grades will need to wear masks/facial coverings, while Pre-K through third graders are highly encouraged to do so.
District Procures PPE for Staff and Students
In a statement released by Maria DiPetta, Katy ISD's Manager for Media Relations & Multimedia, she said, “The PPE was procured by the District and the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The latter is providing many of the said supplies to school systems across Texas, at no cost.”
As of today, the total number of items that Katy ISD has on hand includes:
135,000 adult reusable masks
526,000 adult disposable masks
224,400 child disposable masks
52,000 child reusable masks
341,000 gloves (medium and XL)
630 thermometers
8,788 gallon of hand sanitizers
49,680 hand sanitizing wipes
10,250 face shields
1,650 sanitizing stations
4,000 desk shields for staff
Throughout the school year, the District plans to purchase items and supplement campus PPE supplies as needed.
