Yesterday, Katy ISD welcomed law enforcement, fire service and emergency management partners from across the region for its annual Emergency Responder Forum. This event is aimed at strengthening collaboration and preparedness for student, staff and community safety.

Â
Katy ISD welcomes students back to class on August 12, but safety is always a priority. This week local law enforcement, fire service and emergency management partners from across the region met for the annual Emergency Responder Forum.
Â
"We are fortunate to have partners from across three counties and two cities with us today, united by our shared commitment to serving and protecting our communities," says Katy ISD Superintendent Ken Gregorski. "While we each have different roles, we share the same goal: keeping our communities safe."
Â
Representatives from Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties, the Cities of Katy and Fulshear, the Fort Bend County Division of Emergency Management, Cy Fair and Willow Fork Fire Departments, District leadership and campus principals participated in the daylong forum.
Â
The event featured nationally recognized school safety expert and former Columbine High School Principal Frank DeAngelis as the keynote speaker. Following the keynote, attendees participated in presentations about Katy ISD's school safety initiatives, District growth, emergency operations, school safety standards and tabletop exercises designed to bolster coordination among responding agencies.
Â
Throughout the forum, District leaders, including Katy ISD Chief of Police David Rider and Director of Emergency Management & School Safety Ruben Martinez, shared updates on campus safety enhancements, managed growth projects, building security and emergency preparedness efforts that exceed state requirements. Emergency responders also participated in collaborative planning sessions and a tabletop drill to reinforce coordinated response strategies.
Â
Gregorski emphasized that strong partnerships remain one of the District's greatest strengths in protecting students and staff.
Â
"The relationships we've built with every agency represented in the room today make us stronger and better prepared to respond when it matters most," says Gregorski. "On behalf of our school District and families, I want to sincerely thank you for your partnership, your professionalism and your service."
Â
The annual Emergency Responder Forum reflects Katy ISD's ongoing commitment to foster strong relationships and enhance the linkage between District, local, state and federal public safety partners while continually enhancing Katy ISD’s comprehensive approach to school safety.
