Katy race car driver Ty Hymel continues to win big on the track as he celebrates his second win this season with more hoping to come.

“So far this year we have two wins in the Crown Stock class at Houston Motorsports Park,” says race car driver Ty Hymel. “The cars are old Crown Vic cars that have been taken off the street and converted into race cars.”
Hymel is a Katy High School 2019 graduate. He was on the Katy High School varsity golf team, but racing has always been his dream.
When he was 3-years-old, Hymel saw a race on television at his grandparent’s house. “I fell in love and fast-forward to today and here I am 21-years-old and racing,” says Hymel.
He loves the sport and wants to bring more people, Katy people to understand and support racing.
“We’ve been in multiple different crown Vic cars this season but racing in the same class Owen Pitman and Mike Mecum have put on a great program and have allowed me to race their cars this season,” says Hymel.
This season, they had hoped to race two classes but made some hard decisions and felt that racing in the Crown Stock Class would give them the best opportunity to compete and win for their brand.
Hymel has been racing now for 10 years and bought his first race car with his own money at 14-years-old.
“I would mow yards and saved up money for years,” says Hymel. He still mows some yards and does some contract work on houses for his Dad and Aunt.
Even with being on a winning streak, Hymel is quick to share the credit.
“A race team is more than the driver,” says Hymel. “Races are sometimes lost weeks before the race starts.”

“Sponsorship has been really hard to come by over the past year,” says Hymel. “We are still trying to land sponsors for 2026. We offer a lot of really great sponsors packages and we’ve had some great people help us build a great marketing plan for businesses who decide to come on board. We have just been struggling with getting in front of the right business owners.”
Hymel and his team are very thankful for the sponsors they have which inclue NBD Graphics and Spic and span Trash Cans.
Hymel is Katy raised and loves this city. His favorite places to go are PopStroke or the City of Katy Softball fields.
“I have been playing in a co-ed league out there for the past few years and I love every minute of it,” says Hymel. “GO KTX OUTLAWS!”
He has two races remaining this season with Houston Motorsports Park: October 18 and November 8.
“The goal is pretty simple for us,” explains Hymel. “We wanna win the last two races of the season and solidify our reputation as a winning team again it’s been a very long time since we have been this competitive and I’m very thankful to finally get back to a state where we can show up to the racetrack and expect to win and compete for wins.”
Their plans are still up in the air for the 2026 season, but Hymel knows that they will race full-time at Houston Motorsports Park. He’s still working with his team some different options, but they are focusing on being the best team this season and hoping to add more sponsors in the off-season.

“I have been running TGH racing since I was 14 years old and I’m very excited to have grown this team to where it’s at today,” says Hymel. “A big thank you to my entire family for the endless support my beautiful girlfriend Brooke, my crew chief Mike Peters, and everyone at Houston motorsports Park for putting on the best racing in the state of Texas.”
