Garbage Girlfriend, Katy’s all-female teen rock band will release their debut single this Friday. Tonight, the official music video for the new song will premiere.

For three years, Garbage Girlfriend has excited fans with their music throughout the Katy and Houston area including coming close to winning the coveted BuzzFest opening spot last Spring. On Friday, the band will debut their first single, “Lies.” The new song will be available on all major platforms.
Produced by Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum producer Malcolm Springer out of Nashville, “Lies” is the first in a series of releases that will culminate in the band’s debut album.

An official music video for “Lies” will premiere on YouTube on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. CT. On release day, Garbage Girlfriend will open for national touring act Liliac at Warehouse Live Midtown (7:00 p.m. start time). Garbage Girlfriend’s July appearance at the venue drew more than 600 attendees.
“We can’t believe a song all four of us wrote together is about to be heard around the world—it’s a teenage dream come true,” said Evelyn Moreno (17), drummer and founder of Garbage Girlfriend. “Please pre-save ‘Lies’ on your favorite platform and come celebrate with us Friday night at Warehouse Live.”
Garbage Girlfriend was founded by Evelyn Moreno three years ago and all band members
are local students. Evelyn Moreno (17) drummer, is a senior at James E Taylor High School; Christy Ferra (15) guitarist, is a sophomore at Mayde Creek High School; Ciona Casino (18) bassist, is a Seven Lakes High School graduate and in her first year at U of H; Liv Teixeira (15) lead vocalist, is a sophomore at Bridgeland High School.
Evelyn Moreno has always loved music. For years she was a student at School of Rock in Katy and part of their “by audition-only” band. Moreno took inspiration from her first breakup and formed an all-girl rock band. For the record, she’s on good terms with her ex and happy the experience resulted in Garbage Girlfriend.
“Lies is about someone hurting you over and over again and trying to take away your light,” explains Liv Teixeira. “The lyrics of Lies were inspired by a multitude of relationships, and how it was easy for people in my life to lie to me, but when the time came and I wanted them to lie, they finally told the truth.”
The girls have been texting their friends non-stop and urging people to pre-save the song right now ahead of the release.
“The song was made with help from our producer Malcom Springer,” says Ciona Casino. “Malcolm helped us so much in creating a sound that is uniquely ours and just learning to write together in general. We are grateful for him and everything he has helped us achieve together.”
Moreno says that the song fits “particularly well with the band’s sound.
“It’s got a very heavy, powerful, almost angry vibe to it. My favorite thing is I get to play it in 6/8 time, which is rare for our band and allows for more dynamics, drama and a cinematic feel,” says Moreno. “It’s got a darker vibe to it and it is personally one of my favorites from our ep.”
The band compares their music to that of Paramore, Alanis Morrisette, Hole, The Warning, and more.
“I think that these bands are similar to us because they have heart, they have the heavy songs and the soft songs, they’re primarily female, and they’re strong,” says Teixeira.
Tonight Garbage Girlfriend will be celebrating the premiere of their music video ahead of tomorrow’s release of “Lies” with their family and friends.
