Katy families can get an up close and personal look at what life was like for Texans in the 1800's with pioneer demonstrations, live entertainment, cowboy camp, and more.

On Saturday, April 7, Katy ISD will open the Kenneth D. Welch Outdoor Center to families for a day of fun, Texas history, and hands-on learning from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Experience Texas in the 1800's
Every year, the Katy Folk Life Festival attracts thousands of students and their families. Throughout the day, kids can learn how Texas pioneers lived, worked, played, and celebrated. Create a rag doll toy, watch a Native American cultural performance, practice roping cattle like a real cowboy, and learn about wildlife. And the best part? It's $1.

Visitors can also walk the nature trails, duck ponds, and see the exhibits in the science and history classrooms that are part of the Kenneth D. Welch Outdoor Learning Center.
