UPDATE: Hope Impacts shares details on the man who died yesterday.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are responding to a likely weather-related death at a Katy restaurant (307 South Fry Road) parking lot.

According to authorities, the possible unhoused male was found this morning, Tuesday January 21, 2025 as the Katy area continues to experience a historic winter storm.

The city of Katy has been under a winter storm warning issued by the U.S. National Weather Service since 6:00 p.m. Monday night and through last night, but even then as the storm starts to pass extreme cold weather will remain.

Hope Impacts Tributes the Victim

"Our hearts are broken knowing one of our sweet street friends passed away yesterday," says Tina Hatcher, founder and director of Hope Impacts. "Mark was a well loved member of our Hope Impacts family. We had served him on and off for several years."

Mark had been housed under reapid rehousing program that only lasts up to a year. He had spent time in a shelter but those are always temporary solutions.

"Eventually you have to leave," says Hatcher. "The cycle of homelessness is a difficult one to escape from. Mark had many friends, he was offered help during the freeze but like many- refused. He did have underlying health issues that most likely contributed to his demise."

Katy is still experiencing very cold temperatures.

He will always be remembered as our sweet street Santa, singing on stage with the band at Supper and Showers, and for being stubborn," says Hatcher.
