Katy ISD has announced their 2025-2026 Districtwide Teachers of the Year and recognized the exceptional educators who inspire students, elevate learning and set the standard for excellence.

Katy ISD named their teachers. Leonard Elementary’s Quarde D. Alfred has been named Elementary Teacher of the Year, while Katy Junior High’s Jessica Melancon earned Secondary Teacher of the Year honors. Griffin Elementary’s Victoria Stornello and Faldyn Elementary’s Porchea Butler were named Elementary Rookie Teacher of the Year, marking the first time the honor has been awarded to two educators. Freeman High School’s Blake Kane is the Secondary Rookie Teacher of the Year.
“These educators represent the very best of Katy ISD,” says Dr. Ken Gregorski, Superintendent of Katy ISD. “They inspire students, lead with purpose and elevate the profession through their passion and commitment. Their impact reaches far beyond the classroom, shaping the future of our students and community.”
Each honoree advanced through multiple rounds of evaluation to represent both their campus and the District. They will now compete for national recognition among Region 4’s top teachers.
“Quarde Alfred has utilized his non-traditional background to foster a classroom culture defined by mutual respect, humility and the belief that every child can and will learn,” says Leonard Elementary Principal Jason Sowders. “His greatest strength is his ability to connect with at-risk students, using his own experiences to mentor and inspire beyond the classroom.”
Jessica Melancon teaches choir at Katy Junior High.
“Within Jessica Melancon’s first few months, she revitalized the choir booster club, raising more than $12,000 to support student opportunities and program needs, including new uniforms for all choir students,” says Katy Junior High Principal Carrie Lowery. “She has expanded performance opportunities and rebuilt a culture rooted in high expectations, engagement and joy.”
Katy ISD elementary teacher help set the foundation for younger students.
“Victoria Stornello sets the standard for collegiality, hard work and dedication. She builds strong relationships with students and staff while fully engaging in campus culture, from classroom collaboration to after-hours events and house rallies,” says Griffin Elementary Principal Jacki Keithan.
“Throughout her transition from first to third grade, Porchea Butler quickly built strong relationships with students, parents and colleagues while maintaining a calm, student-centered classroom,” says Faldyn Elementary Principal Kathryn Leeper. “Her recognition as Katy Teach ACP Teacher of the Month reflects her commitment to growth and excellence.”
Freeman High School Principal Gina Cobb spoke about Blake Kane, the secondary teacher of the year.
“Blake Kane consistently exceeds expectations through his involvement, teamwork and commitment to supporting students and staff,” says Cobb. “From the start of his career, he has embraced the role of educator as one that extends far beyond the classroom.”
Katy ISD will honor all campus and District Teachers of the Year at its annual “Of the Year” ceremony April 16.
