1,680 Katy ISD students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievement by the College Board’s National Recognition Program. This program celebrates high-performing students who excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10 and Advanced Placement® (AP) Exams.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and perseverance our students demonstrate every day and the support our teachers provide on their academic journey,” says Dr. Christine Caskey, Katy ISD Chief Academic Officer. “We are incredibly proud to see so many of them honored for their excellence.”

The program is designed to highlight each student’s academic accomplishments and give them a competitive edge on college and scholarship applications. It’s provided by BigFuture where students can plan for college by finding scholarships.

The College Board introduced three award categories this year: the First-Generation Recognition Award, the Rural and Small-Town Recognition Award and the School Recognition Award, which highlights top-performing students across every high school.

To qualify, students must:

  • Take the PSAT/NMSQT® and/or AP® Exams by the end of their sophomore year

  • Maintain a B+ or higher cumulative GPA

  • Score in the top 10 percent of test takers at their school, qualify as first-generation college students or earn a score of 3+ on two or more AP® Exams by 10th grade

Katy ISD welcomed 97,000 back to school last week. The District continues to outperform state averages. They achieved the highest score of the top 10 largest districts in the state – earning a B rating for the third consecutive year.

This past spring Katy ISD students outperformed their peers across Texas by:

  • 18 points above the state average at the “Meets” level in Math

  • 17 points above the state average in Reading/English

  • 19 points above the state average in Science

  • 20 points above the state average in Social Studies

“State standardized test scores are just one of several metrics by which we assess the academic preparedness of our students,” says Dr. Christine Caskey. “These impressive results demonstrate the daily commitment of Katy ISD educators, support staff, parents and leaders working collaboratively to ensure all students receive a high-quality education.”
