Katy ISD invites parents, students and community members to an online Legacy Parent Academy session tonight that will address mental health in teens.

Public Webinar is Tonight
Tonight, September 24, 2025, Katy families and community members are all invited to a free webinar that will address mental health in teens. While the program is targeting ages 11-13 (grades 6-8) the District says it’s still relevant for all ages.
Eight years ago, Katy ISD launched the Legacy Parent Academy as a way to educate parents by raising awareness on various academic and wellness topics that impact students. Topics have included the fentanyl crisis, teen mental health, adjusting from middle school to high school, etc.
All sessions are free and open to Katy parents and Katy community members.
The webinar is tonight at 6:00 p.m. Those wanting to attend can join online. (Meeting ID: 2924208130453 Passcode: bj2z88pU)
“The seminar about mental health for teens is geared to Jr. High students,” says Katy ISD Board of Trustee Dawn Champaign. “Maintaining good mental health for kids this age is important because it is the foundation for the rest of their teen age and young adult years, which is a complex world to navigate.”
Tonight’s session: Supporting Teen Mental Health is in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP.) It’s brought to you by funds raises by Out of the Darkness Walks & Southwest Texas Chapter.
Katy ISD’s Legacy Parent Academy is a series of informational sessions designed to assist parents by raising awareness on social-emotional and academic topics that impact students. Visit the Legacy Parent Academy page to learn more.Previous session topics can also be found on their website.
“It’s a time that teens deal with peer issues, social media, academics, and just trying to figure out what their future path in life might be,” says Champaign. “As us adults can remember, it’s a lot. I think it would be very beneficial for both parents and kids this age to attend this seminar to learn more about how to get through these years ahead.”
Do you have an idea for future topics? For additional information, please submit a Public Information Request Formlocated on the Katy ISD website.
